Video explaining First Law of Motion

Objects have a tendency to move or remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

If Fnet= ∑F = 0, an object at rest would stay in rest or in motion would continue to move at a constant velocity(same speed, same direction).

  • To change the state of motion, we need to have a non-zero net force.

The tendency of an object to maintain its state of motion is calledinertia.Due to this very reason, the first law is calledLaw of inertia.Mathematically, Inertia ∝ Mass
